The scavengers helped an Italian woman return a lottery ticket with a €1 million prize thrown into the trash. This was reported on August 4 by The Guardian newspaper.

After the drawing, the winner checked the ticket in the store, and the machine showed that it was not payable, since small retailers exchange only small amounts. The woman threw away the ticket, and found out at home that she had won the jackpot.

She contacted the administrator of the SANB waste management company, Roberto Nicola Toscano. The workers restored the route of the garbage truck and searched for a ticket for more than a day.

"Among them was the piece we were looking for, which miraculously remained intact," Toscano said.

When he informed the winner about the discovery, she burst into tears with excitement. The woman signed a promise to cover the additional costs of the search.

The Daily Mirror newspaper reported on March 19 that the lottery winner in the UK could lose a prize of £10.6 million (over $14 million) if he does not apply for payment in the next two weeks. The event itself took place last year, on October 4, 2025: the winner of the winning ticket guessed all six numbers, hitting the jackpot, but probably still does not know what happened.
