- The IKI RAS promised a visible solar eclipse in Russia on August 12-13
Residents of the northern and northwestern regions of Russia will be able to see the solar eclipse on August 12-13. This was announced on August 5 at the Space Research Institute (IRI). The wounds are on the website.
According to scientists, the eclipse will begin on August 12 at 18:35 Moscow time from the moment the penumbra of the Moon enters the Earth's surface. Residents of territories from Chukotka to St. Petersburg, Murmansk and Kaliningrad will be able to observe it. At the same time, the largest phase of the eclipse in Anadyr is expected on August 12 at 19:28 Moscow time.
It is specified that in the European part of Russia, the maximum phase of the event is predicted at about 20:50-21:00 Moscow time. Only residents of the regions northwest of the Kaliningrad-St. Petersburg—Arkhangelsk line, where the Sun will still be above the horizon, will be able to see it. In addition, in Moscow it will be possible to observe only the beginning of the eclipse, depending on the place of observation.
Oleg Ugolnikov, a senior researcher at the ICI RAS, noted on August 3 that residents of the capital will be able to observe the solar eclipse in just a few minutes. The astronomical phenomenon will begin over the city at 20:04 Moscow time, and at 20:09 Moscow time the Sun will go below the horizon. Ugolnikov stressed that due to the low position of the sun above the horizon, its brightness will be weakened.
