Trump's helicopter took off from the White House without stopping commercial flights
The US aviation authorities have initiated a review of the actions of the Washington Airport control room staff, who, contrary to established safety standards, did not block commercial flights during the takeoff of the Marine One helicopter with US President Donald Trump on board. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal on August 4.
"The Marine One presidential helicopter took off from the White House on Tuesday afternoon, but air traffic controllers did not stop commercial flights at nearby Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, as required by security regulations... The Federal Aviation Authorities are investigating the incident with air traffic safety," the publication says.
It was clarified that the helicopter was heading to Los Angeles.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), there could have been a violation of the minimum allowable distance between Marine One and a passenger plane taking off at about the same time at the airport. The ministry also stressed that according to preliminary data, the aircraft did not approach at a critical distance.
The newspaper quoted White House press secretary Kush Desai as saying that the president's life was not in danger, as Marine One pilots are among the most trained specialists in the country.
Restrictions on aircraft movement in the Ronald Reagan Airport area were introduced after the tragedy in January 2025, when a commercial airliner and a military helicopter collided in the skies over Washington, killing 67 people.
Trump's new plane, donated to him by Qatar, was previously replaced by the old Air Force One. Israeli Channel 12 reported on July 12 that Iran was allegedly trying to organize an assassination attempt on the US president, and an intelligence report about this led to the replacement of the presidential board.
