The European Commission has promised to achieve a complete ban on Russian energy in the EU

The European Commission (EC) continues to work on a proposal for a complete ban on the import of Russian electricity into the European Union (EU) and will submit it in due course. This was announced on August 4 by EC representative Anna-Kaisa Itkonen.

"First of all, our goal is to ban all Russian energy on European markets, and we are successfully moving towards the implementation of this strategy," she said at a briefing.

Itkonen noted that Russian oil is already under sanctions, but an exception has been made for Slovakia and Hungary. The EC is working closely with Budapest and Bratislava to diversify supplies and abandon the Russian resource. Work on the ban is underway, and a proposal will be submitted in due course.

The New York Times reported on July 25 that the EU fears that after abandoning Russian gas, it may become dependent on American energy resources. It is noted that the EU will completely stop importing Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) over the next six months, which will be an "important stage" in the association's strategy to abandon energy resources from Russia.

The Financial Times newspaper reported on July 22 that the EU, as part of a new package of anti-Russian sanctions, may allow the transportation of Russian LNG to third countries for another year, while the deadline may be extended further. In this case, gas prices will be set at the level of 2025.
