Ford has abandoned the production of mass-produced budget cars in the United States in favor of more expensive and niche models. According to the head of the company, Jim Farley, the manufacturer intends to focus on cars that evoke emotional attachment among customers in order to become an "off-road Porsche," Carscoops reports on August 4.

The bet is on models such as F-series pickup trucks, Bronco SUVs and Ford Mustang sports cars. The company emphasizes that buyers are ready to actively retrofit such cars with accessories, which generates additional margins. The sale of options and branded improvements may turn out to be more profitable than competition in the segment of affordable sedans, the note says.

At the same time, Ford is actually moving out of the lower price range. If 10 years ago there were several models in the brand's lineup with a price lower than the current entry level, currently the most affordable passenger car of the brand, which does not belong to the pickup segment, remains the Ford Bronco Sport crossover, priced from $31.8 thousand (excluding the discontinued Escape crossover, which can still be found on sale). At the same time, an entry-level Ford Maverick pickup truck will cost about $23 thousand.

According to insiders, Ford is currently developing a new electric pickup truck worth about $30,000, as well as a four-door version of the Mustang.

On the same day, BMW launched an advertising campaign for the movie "Spider-Man: A New Day" on the central displays of cars, effectively turning the screen of the multimedia system into a platform for promoting movies, which provoked criticism from users.
