Putin was invited to the opening of a new hydroelectric unit at the Svetlinskaya HPP

Diamond mining giant Alrosa, despite the industry crisis and sanctions, has maintained its global leadership in terms of production volumes. The company's proven reserves account for about 50% of the global total — about 1 billion carats. Pavel Marinychev, the head of the holding, reported this on August 4 at a working meeting with Vladimir Putin. The group cut costs by a quarter, but did not stop key investment projects. Marinychev invited the president to launch one of the strategic facilities, hydroelectric unit No. 4 at the Svetlinskaya HPP with a capacity of 104 MW.

What was discussed at the meeting

The global diamond industry is experiencing the deepest crisis in history, exacerbated by sanctions pressure. Despite this, Alrosa retains absolute global leadership in terms of production, and the company's proven reserves account for about 50% of the global total — about 1 billion carats.

The holding's production potential today includes five mining and processing plants and more than 20 operating fields. They produce about 30 million carats of diamonds per year, which is equivalent to 30% of the global market.

The company cut costs by a quarter — savings amounted to 65 billion rubles, but large-scale investment projects were not frozen. The Mir—Glubokiy flagship mine will ensure the holding's global leadership until 2070. At the same time, they are diversifying their business — preparations are underway for gold mining at the Degdekan deposits in the Magadan region and Khatystakh in Yakutia. In addition, hydroelectric unit No. 4 at the Svetlinskaya HPP is being prepared for launch, which will add 104 MW of capacity. Pavel Marinychev suggested that Vladimir Putin remotely launch his work during the upcoming Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).

In the field of ecology and technology, joint research with Moscow State University has confirmed the carbon neutrality of the holding. It turned out that the kimberlite rock actively absorbs carbon dioxide during processing, due to which the company uses more co₂ (carbon dioxide) than it emits during production. In addition, Alrosa has fully secured digital and technological independence by successfully switching to 100% domestic software and 98% Russian hardware.
