Russian artist Mikhail Rubets has died.
Alexander Rubets, a Russian artist and corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts, has died at the age of 72. This was reported on the Academy's website.
"The Russian Academy of Arts is deeply saddened to announce that on August 1, 2026, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts, Vice-president of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia, member of the Union of Artists and the Union of Designers of Russia, a well-known figure of the Russian art community, a talented painter, and a recognized organizer of cultural life, Alexander Mikhailovich Rubets, passed away at the age of 73.", — the message says.
The RAH noted that the master's talent was formed in the traditions of the Russian school of the late 1960s and 1970s. The main themes of his work were landscapes of the North Caucasus, urban and rural views, as well as still lifes. Representatives of the Academy emphasized that the author's compositional and coloristic solutions have always been in the spotlight of the professional community.
Rubets was born in Grodno, Belarus, and studied in Minsk and Leningrad, but most of his life was connected with Pyatigorsk. The organization pointed out his significant contribution to the cultural life of the Southern region, where he served as a member of the Bureau of the Southern Regional Branch of the Russian Academy of Arts and Vice-president of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia.
The Academy also recalled the painter's active exhibition activities, including a personal exhibition in the halls of the Russian Academy of Arts in 2014. For his achievements, he was awarded the gold and silver medals of the Academy, as well as the medal "For Services to the Academy" and the Shuvalov Medal.
Alexander Rubts' works are kept in the collections of more than 20 museums in Russia and Belarus, including the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus and the Saratov Art Museum named after A.N. Radishchev. The Presidium and the scientific and creative team of the Russian Academy of Arts expressed their condolences to the family and friends of the artist.
