Wagenknecht accused the Ukrainian ambassador of interfering in the German elections

The leader of the German Union for Social Justice and Economic Reasonableness party, Sarah Wagenknecht, accused Ukraine's Ambassador to Germany, Alexei Makeev, of interfering in the upcoming elections in the eastern regions of Germany. This was announced on August 3 by the politician on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

It is clarified that Wagenknecht did not like the diplomat's criticism of the German parties and the large-scale support of Kiev from Berlin. In her opinion, the Ukrainian ambassador has lost his sense of proportion. She stated that Makeev allows himself to openly interfere in the electoral process in Germany against the background of the lack of consequences for undermining an important gas pipeline for Germans.

"The Ukrainian ambassador has completely lost his sense of proportion. He probably believes that if Ukraine can blow up the most important energy supply pipeline for the Germans without any consequences, then it is allowed and openly interfere in our elections," the report says.

She called the diplomat's tone arrogance, given the allocation of €10 billion from German taxpayers to Ukraine this year. Wagenknecht noted that the Federal government of Germany puts the interests of Ukraine above the interests of its own citizens. She added that it is the residents of Germany who are forced to pay for the continuation of the conflict at gas stations.

The BSW founder's reaction followed Makeev's interview with Die Welt newspaper. In it, the Ukrainian ambassador claimed that some political associations of Germany, including the Wagenknecht party and Alternative for Germany, allegedly receive instructions from Moscow.

On July 5, Wagenknecht demanded that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky be summoned to Germany to testify as part of the investigation into the explosion of the Nord Stream gas pipelines. She noted that the Bundestag cannot create a parliamentary commission of inquiry into this case, since the German parties refuse to do this together with Alternative for Germany.
