The Moldovan government has introduced a strict water and energy conservation regime due to the drought

The National Crisis Management Commission of Moldova, chaired by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, approved a package of measures due to the energy crisis and the lowering of the water level in the Dniester River. This was reported on August 3 in the Telegram channel of the regional government.

In particular, commercial electricity exports will be limited from 18:00 to 22:00 local time (coincides with Moscow time) to meet the country's domestic needs. Indoor lighting will be reduced in public buildings and shopping malls. Decorative and advertising lighting, as well as fountains, will be completely turned off between 18:00 and 06:00.

Residents of apartment buildings are asked to minimize the use of elevators during peak load hours on the power grid: from 06:00 to 09:00 and from 18:00 to 23:00.

Additionally, strict restrictions on the consumption of water resources are being introduced. It is forbidden to use drinking water for secondary needs, including for filling pools and washing streets. Water intake from the Dniester for irrigation is now allowed only at night — from 21:00 to 06:00. Local authorities have been instructed to prepare backup water supply sources and strengthen control over the quality of drinking water.

Tofan reported on July 28 that Moldova had officially declared a high-alert regime for a period of 30 days due to a sharp shortage of diesel fuel in the domestic market and critical shallowing of the main rivers. The current crisis situation is provoked by the falling water level in the Danube, which has stopped the logistics of river barges, as well as the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East. At the same time, the government imposed a state of emergency in the energy sector due to fuel shortages.
