The court sentenced a resident of Kursk to 16 years in a penal colony in a case of treason.

The Second Western District Military Court sentenced Daniil Pavlov, a 23-year-old resident of Kursk, to 16 years in prison in a case of high treason, participation in the activities of the Freedom of Russia Legion, a terrorist organization banned in Russia, and money laundering. This was announced on August 3 by the court's press service.

"The court found Pavlov guilty and, according to the totality of the crimes, finally, by partial addition, imposed a sentence of imprisonment for a period of 16 years with the first 3 years in prison, and the remainder of the sentence," TASS quotes the statement about the decision.

According to the court's decision, the convict will spend the first three years in prison, and the rest of the term in a high—security penal colony. In addition, he was sentenced to one year of restriction of liberty and a fine of 40,000 rubles.

The court also decided to convert 20 thousand rubles into state income, which, according to investigators, were obtained as a result of the commission of crimes.

Pavlov was found guilty under articles on high treason, participation in the activities of a terrorist organization and the legalization of criminally acquired funds.

According to the court, the investigation established that the convict, according to the prosecution, collected and transmitted information, including state secrets, to representatives of the Legion of Freedom of Russia, a terrorist organization banned in Russia, and the special services of Ukraine. According to the court, this information could be used against the security of the Russian Federation.
