The circumstances of the incident
In the morning, the governor of the Krasnodar Territory, Veniamin Kondratiev, announced that the wreckage of the UAV had fallen in the village of Arkhipo-Osipovka. It is part of the Gelendzhik resort City municipality and is a popular beach village on the Black Sea coast. The governor did not specify the number of UAVs that attacked the settlement.
According to him, the attack was carried out on civilian infrastructure. The media reported that the drones fell directly onto the beach, where there were many tourists, including children. Eyewitnesses said they hid behind sun beds and coastal rocks.
Injured and deceased
According to the latest data from the authorities, six people were killed as a result of the strike, three of them children. Kondratiev reported that about 40 people were injured, and Gelendzhik Mayor Alexei Bogodistov said 47 civilians were injured. Of these, 17 were hospitalized in medical institutions in Gelendzhik, Tuapse district and Goryachy Klyuch.
According to Alexei Kuznetsov, Assistant Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, the condition of four of the hospitalized, including two children, is assessed as serious. Local doctors consult with specialists from federal medical centers. The work is coordinated by the Federal Center for Disaster Medicine under the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.
The reaction of the authorities
Kondratiev called the Ukrainian Armed Forces attack a terrorist act and a blow to the civilian population of the region.
"What happened today is a targeted attack by the Kiev regime on the civilian population, which has nothing to do with the military infrastructure. A cynical and inhumane terrorist act against children cannot be justified," the governor stressed.
Kondratiev assured that the victims will receive the necessary assistance, and the families of the victims will receive financial support. According to Bogodistov, a primary care center for the wounded has been deployed in the Arkhipo-Osipovka hospital. The facility was reinforced by doctors from Gelendzhik city hospital and doctors from a local sanatorium. Two psychologists and volunteers are working on site.
A special disaster medicine team and eight ambulance teams from Gelendzhik and Tuapse were also sent to the settlement. An operational center has been deployed at the scene of the tragedy to coordinate the actions of emergency services. The Gelendzhik Prosecutor's Office took control of the observance of the rights of victims and organized a hotline.
The attack on Crimea
On the night of August 3, the Ukrainian Armed Forces also attacked Crimea. According to the head of the republic, Sergey Aksyonov, four people were killed: three during the strike itself, and one more after a while. Two more civilians were injured. Aksyonov promised to provide support to the victims and the families of the victims.
In total, Russian air defense systems shot down 131 drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine overnight.
