The vehicle market in Russia has grown by 10% in seven months

In January-July 2026, 815.1 thousand new vehicles were sold in Russia (up to three years), which is 10% more than in the same period last year. This is reported in the report of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, which was received by Izvestia on August 3.

Sales of new vehicles manufactured in the Russian Federation increased by 26.5%, to 516.4 thousand units. As a result, the share of domestic products in the total market volume increased to 63.4% in seven months, which is more than 8 percentage points more than in the same period last year. The positive dynamics remains in the segment of hybrid and electric vehicles: the market in January-July amounted to 70.2 thousand units, which is 94.7% higher than the same indicator last year.

At the same time, the share of electric vehicles and hybrids manufactured in the Russian Federation was 26.3%, compared with 11.1% a year ago. Among the total new car market, electric vehicles and hybrids have taken a share of almost 9% (5% in the past). Sales of electric cars increased by 15.3% in seven months and reached 7,025 units. The share of those manufactured in the Russian Federation was 45.8% (27.3% a year ago).

In the first seven months of this year, the growth in total sales was mainly driven by the passenger car segment. Sales of light commercial vehicles decreased by 17.2% (to 48,000 units), trucks — by 6.7% (to 31.4 thousand units), buses — by 3.5% (to 5,723 units).

As for July, the market for new vehicles amounted to almost 135 thousand units, which is 0.3% higher than in July last year.. Compared to June of this year, the market has also grown by 5.5%. Sales of new cars manufactured in the Russian Federation in the middle of summer amounted to 85.2 thousand units (+13.7%).

Earlier, on July 31, it was reported that by mid-summer there were 3.43 million Chinese-made passenger cars in Russia. The share of Chinese—made cars accounted for 7.2% of the total number of passenger cars in Russia - now almost every 14th car in the country belongs to the Chinese brand.
