The wreckage of the "Rock": how the elite units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Krasny Kut were defeated
Waves of drones, dense minefields, powerful fortified areas covered with barbed wire, elite units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine — our soldiers had to face this during the storming of the village of Krasny Kut in the DPR. His release, which was announced by the Russian Defense Ministry on July 28, made it possible to widen the wedge between Dobropolye and the Druzhkov agglomeration — this important foothold cuts through the enemy group operating in the DPR. The Izvestia correspondent visited units of the 150th Guards Division and learned the details of the assault.
The elite of the Armed Forces of Ukraine could not resist
Units of the 150th Guards Division and other forces of the Center group of forces participated in the battles for Krasny Kut. The powerful fortifications in this area did not come as a surprise to our troops. The enemy continues to adhere to the concept of holding "fortress cities", the centers of which are large settlements.
"The battles for Krasny Kut must be considered in the context of our advance through the agglomeration," says Senior Lieutenant Ivan Kolodin, company commander of the 68th Tank Regiment of the 150th Division of the 8th Army of the Center Group of Forces. — This village was one of those that was on our way, and the operation to liberate it was prepared in advance as the final stage of a larger operation, during which Poltava, Sofiyivka, Torskoye and other settlements were liberated.
The enemy has enveloped Krasny Kut in an extensive network of fortified settlements, well—prepared defenses in engineering terms - anti-tank ditches, anti-personnel barriers made of barbed wire and tangled wire.
The forest plantations were heavily mined to prevent the stealthy passage of small groups of infantry. But the main threat to our attack aircraft has become enemy drones, the density of which in the Dobropolsky area remains one of the highest on the entire line of combat contact.
In such conditions, our attack aircraft were entrenched in buildings, operating in small groups of two or three people. Then, in close cooperation with the troops of unmanned systems, artillery and tankers firing from closed positions, they destroyed enemy strongholds and forces.
The final stage is the cleansing of the village and securing it in new positions.
— In the area of the village, the enemy gathered a large group of elite units up to the territorial defense, so great efforts had to be made to destroy it. Our old enemies have been here since Popasnaya's time — the nationalist battalions and their unmanned units, the Skala assault regiment. We know this from interceptions, from chevrons, and from prisoners," said Ivan Kolodin.
In the video recording the fighting, our drones hit targets in almost every courtyard of a small village. Dugouts, shelters and artillery positions were located at each house, which became the basis of fortifications.
On the walls of the buildings, you can see inscriptions with unit numbers left over from the time when the Ukrainian rear was deep here and they were not afraid of such attacks.
"The Rock" with fascist cockades
The name of the 425th assault regiment "Skala", operating in this area, has long been a household name. He was often mentioned in the stories of captured Ukrainian militants. Some recalled that it was the elite of this unit that performed the functions of detachments, killing soldiers of ordinary units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine trying to withdraw. Others talked about torture and murder.
Looking at the photos of representatives of the "elite" in black berets with silver eagles on their cockades, it's not hard to believe. The swastika in the claws of an eagle is sometimes "shamefully" replaced with the Ukrainian coat of arms, but the ideology that the militants follow is clear.
The prisoners from Krasny Kut were no exception. They say that the training camps in the Skala regiment are more like a prison than a training ground. About the lack of an opportunity to somehow contact relatives and that their salary cards and money were taken away from them, and at the slightest offense they were threatened with "zeroing out", that is, with murder.
Ivan Kolodin says that cases of UAV strikes against their own armed forces in the area were not uncommon. They were immediately inflicted when trying to retreat or surrender.
"The key factor in our success is the enormous experience gained over the past four years of the special military operation," our interlocutor notes. — The skills of not only units related to unmanned aircraft, but also assault infantry, tank crews and others are being improved.
Due to this fusion of knowledge, our people have really become a powerful fighting machine. No matter how difficult it may be, no matter what the conditions, but still, real Russian fighters always go to the end, according to Chief Lieutenant Ivan Kolodin.
Interestingly, after the loss of the Skala regiment and other "related" units of positions and settlements in the DPR, a series of scandals began in Ukraine. If earlier reports of nationalist killings of their own soldiers were considered by many to be a manifestation of information warfare on the part of Russia, then after the death of several mobilized in the rear, confirmed by relatives and some members of parliament, it became impossible to ignore these facts.
Inspections are underway in the assault units, and the new commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stopped sending reinforcements to Skala on August 30. Given the ongoing offensive by our troops, the latter may be considered an invitation for the previously untouchable "elite" to begin fulfilling their immediate duties — to fight in the front ranks on the line of contact. There is a high probability that soon the "ideological" composition of the "Rock" will be destroyed by the "Center" group.
