Merchant ship Yanina sank in the Black Sea due to drone attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces

The ship Yanina, owned by the Fesco transport company, sank in the Black Sea on the night of August 1 after an attack by naval unmanned aerial vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was announced on August 1 by the head of Rosatom, Alexei Likhachev.

The incident occurred at 22:00 Moscow time on July 31 in international waters 130 miles from Novorossiysk, the head of the corporation said. The ship was carrying civilian products.

"I would like to note the coordinated actions of the team, which, in a situation where it became clear that the ship was sinking, left the ship in an organized manner and without panic," Likhachev stressed, RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

He said that all 17 crew members were rescued. In addition, the crew of the Delphinus international ship, under the command of an Egyptian captain, rescued 16 of the 17 sailors. Likhachev called the attack piracy and maritime robbery.

On the night of July 30, unmanned aerial vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also attacked two tankers near the terminal of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium. As a result of the impact, a fire broke out, which was promptly eliminated. There were no fatalities or injuries among employees or contractors. In addition, another tanker flying the flag of the Isle of Man was attacked six nautical miles away.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted on the same day that the attack on the tankers was of a terrorist nature. The diplomat stressed that attacks on civilian energy infrastructure in the Black Sea continue, despite statements from countries that Kiev calls partners.
