The circumstances of the incident

The explosion occurred on August 1 at about 20:10 on Kudrinskaya Square. According to preliminary information, the epicenter was in the Balzi Rossi restaurant or near its summer cafe. Operational and emergency services immediately began work at the scene of the incident, rescuers went inside the building to assist the people who were there.

Three people became victims of the incident. Another 15 people were injured in various degrees of severity, and the victims were carried out of the building on their hands and on stretchers. The metropolitan headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed the fact that police officers were working at the scene of the emergency.

Eyewitness accounts

According to witnesses, there could have been about 50 people in the room at the time of the explosion. Eyewitnesses indicate that a private wedding celebration was taking place in the restaurant, which was accompanied by a 15—man guard with walkie-talkies. After a powerful bang, panic began on the spot, and numerous ambulances quickly arrived at the building.

One of the women who happened to be near the scene of the events told about the first minutes after the explosion and about the wounded whom she saw personally.

"One man with serious traces of blood was taken away," she said.

Changes in the schedule of events

In connection with the incident, the metropolitan Department of Transport announced changes to the schedule of city events. The night cycling festival planned in Moscow has been postponed indefinitely due to unforeseen circumstances.

The authorities apologized to the festival participants and promised to inform them about the new date of the event later through official communication channels. On Kudrinskaya Square itself, the work of emergency services and investigators continues to establish all the causes of the incident.
