France has reinforced the border with Spain with military and drones amid the crisis in Ceuta

Against the background of the migration crisis in Ceuta, France has deployed military equipment on the border with Spain to monitor this area. This was announced by President Emmanuel Macron on July 31.

"I have asked [French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez] to strengthen control on our border with Spain. <...> Four units of mobile forces, planes and drones have been deployed," he wrote on his page on the social network X (formerly. Twitter).

The French leader explained that appropriate measures are needed to strengthen security at the border. According to him, employees of the anti-illegal immigration brigades are also involved in their implementation.

Macron stressed that Paris stands in solidarity with Europe, in particular, with Madrid. According to him, the issue of ensuring the security of the European Union (EU) is being handled responsibly.

Tens of thousands of Moroccans began to arrive in Spain en masse on July 30 after Spain decided to close the only operating border crossing in the city of Melilla in northern Africa. At least 57 people died while trying to cross the border. Madrid took prompt measures to respond to what was happening: it mobilized the military and police, who began using tear gas against the arrivals, and also carried out several major deportation actions.

Meanwhile, Italy suspended the Schengen Agreement with Spain, and the leader of the opposition Alternative for Germany party, Alice Weidel, called on the authorities of her country to strengthen security at the state borders.
