Cardiologist warned about hidden threat to heart health
Evgeny Kokin, PhD, cardiologist at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg Clinic), warned that snoring can become a hidden threat to heart health.
In conversation with Lenta.Ru On Friday, July 31, the doctor explained that in some cases, snoring may be a symptom of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, a condition in which breathing during sleep periodically stops for several seconds. According to him, it is precisely such episodes, and not the snoring itself, that can significantly increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
Kokin noted that not every person who snores develops sleep apnea. However, if snoring is accompanied by sudden awakenings, a feeling of suffocation or severe daytime drowsiness, you should not postpone a visit to the doctor. He explained that during episodes of sleep apnea, the oxygen level in the blood decreases, which causes the body to experience stress and begin to produce hormones that increase blood pressure and heart rate.
The cardiologist added that if such episodes are repeated dozens or even hundreds of times per night, the heart and blood vessels work in conditions of constant overload. According to him, nocturnal respiratory arrest does not allow the cardiovascular system to fully rest, which increases the risk of arterial hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, myocardial infarction and stroke.
On July 27, cardiologist Luiza Aliyeva spoke about the negative effects of energy drinks on heart health. According to her, special care should be taken by people with hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, cardiomyopathies and other cardiovascular diseases.
