According to the results of the first half of 2026, 7.3 thousand new passenger cars with a diesel engine were sold in Russia. This is 12% less than in the same period last year, the analytical agency Autostat reported on July 31.

The market share of this segment is only 1.2%. The BMW brand, which is not officially represented in Russia, turned out to be the leader in sales of diesel cars in the country for six months. Its result was 1,733 copies sold.

In second place is Mercedes-Benz (1,075 units), whose cars are also supplied to the Russian Federation through alternative imports. The top five also included Foton (632 units), Great Wall (567 units) and another "unofficial" brand, Toyota (567 units).

The Foton Tunland pickup truck became the leader in the model rating with a result of 627 cars sold. The top 5 was complemented by the BMW X5 crossover (577 units), GWM Poer (503 units), BMW X7 crossover (468 units) and Mitsubishi L200 pickup truck (393 units). Next are the JAC T9, BMW X6, Mercedes-Benz GLS, Mercedes-Benz GLE and Range Rover.

As noted by Sergey Tselikov, the head of Autostat, only Chinese pickups and a number of premium crossovers and SUVs remain among the new models on the diesel car market.

Earlier that day, a new version of the Foton Toano diesel van was introduced in Russia. The cargo and passenger modification is aimed at companies that need to transport up to six passengers with equipment, tools or other cargo.
