Trump actually supported the bill on anti-Russian sanctions

On July 29, US President Donald Trump supported a bill to tighten the sanctions regime against Russia and Iran, developed by the Senate.

"I would like to see not only sanctions imposed on Iran, but also duties. I think it's important," Trump told reporters at the White House.

The American leader noted that the bill provides for the imposition of duties on Russia, but does not apply to the five countries associated with Iran. Trump said he considers it necessary to include Tehran in the pressure measures, which, in his opinion, will make the initiative tougher.

At the same time, he clarified that he did not see the need for the House of Representatives to interrupt the parliamentary recess in August to quickly consider the sanctions bill.

Brussels has abandoned some of the restrictive measures due to extensive internal disagreements.

On July 28, during a preliminary vote, the majority of US senators supported the bill on sanctions against Russia, the main legacy of the late US Senator Lindsey Graham (listed as an extremist and terrorist by Rosfinmonitoring). 86 legislators voted for the initiative. The document on tightening sanctions against Russia gives Trump the right to impose 100% duties on imports from the five largest countries — buyers of Russian oil. At the same time, Graham's sister Darlene, who took the post of senator instead of her deceased brother, did not participate in the vote. Some representatives of the US Democratic Party opposed the adoption of a bill on new anti-Russian sanctions.
