The car expert advised not to refuel the car after the "click"

It is not recommended to top up gasoline after the first click of the filling gun because of the overload of the vapor capture system, the risk of expensive breakage and the creation of conditions for leaks and fire. Nikita Rodionov, technical director of the international franchise network of Fit Service car services, told about this.

"The correct algorithm is this: as soon as the gun is turned off, stop refueling. For a modern car, this is one of the simplest and at the same time effective ways to extend the life of the fuel system and not turn regular refueling into a potential problem," Rossiyskaya Gazeta quoted Rodionov as saying on July 29.

The expert explained that there is a channel in the nozzle of the gun that reacts to changes in pressure and air flow near the neck of the tank. When the air flow changes, the gun clicks and cuts off the supply. If you continue to top up, there are risks to the fuel system and safety — the excess is sent to where only fuel vapors should be.

Modern cars are equipped with a fuel vapor capture system (EVAP), which is dosed back into the internal combustion engine through the adsorber for afterburning. When refueling "under the neck", the pressure in the tank increases, and fuel enters the adsorber, disabling it. As a result, there is a smell of gasoline, unstable revs, problems with starting and engine error. Repairs can cost tens of thousands of rubles, which is significantly more expensive than extra liters of fuel, the specialist noted.

Another consequence of the excess fuel, the expert called the risk that it could leak through the neck, old seals or drainage tubes and end up on suspension elements, wiring and rubber parts under the bottom. As a result, it can end up on the body and begin to corrode the paint, and on the hot elements of the exhaust system it creates an additional risk of fire.

On July 21, Rodionov also said that the proper use of fuel additives can indeed become additional protection for an internal combustion engine, but chaotic amateur experiments can speed up expensive repairs.
