Russian champion runner Alexey Reunkov suffered a spinal injury as a result of an accident. He announced this on July 28 on the Instagram social network (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
"I had to spend four long hours in the trauma department...> I was hit by a car today while riding my bike on the sidewalk," the publication says.
According to him, damage to the vertebrae was recorded, as a result of the incident, the athlete will spend the next month without training. He assumed that the current running season had come to an end for him.
Reunkov is the champion of Russia in 2024 in marathon running, participant of the 2012 Olympic Games in the marathon. At the competition, he took 14th place with a time of 2:13.49, which turned out to be the best among the three Russian marathon runners. In August 2014, at the European Championships, which took place in Zurich, Switzerland, Reunkov won a bronze medal in the marathon.
On July 28, Izvestia was informed by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Russian Interior Ministry that 344 road accidents had occurred on Russian roads over the past day, in which 40 people were killed and 414 injured. It was noted that as a result of 61 accidents involving pedestrians, four people were killed, and 57 more were injured in various degrees of severity.
