The Ministry of Health has expanded the standard of medical care for children with tuberculosis

The Russian Ministry of Health has updated the standard of medical care for children with tuberculosis, extending the duration of treatment and expanding the list of drugs and examination methods. This follows from the order published on July 28 on the website of the official Internet portal of legal information.

"To approve the standard of medical care for children with tuberculosis (diagnosis, treatment and follow—up) according to the appendix," the document says.

It is noted that the new list includes more than 20 names of medicines. According to the updated standard, the average duration of treatment for one completed case increased from 270 to 365 days. New laboratory and instrumental research methods have also been added to the list.

In addition, to diagnose patients' condition and choose further therapy, the standard includes primary specialist appointments, including an obstetrician-gynecologist, gastroenterologist, pediatric surgeon, infectious disease specialist, pediatric cardiologist, clinical pharmacologist, neurologist, otorhinolaryngologist, pediatrician, pediatric urologist-andrologist, endocrinologist and medical psychologist.

The list of drugs includes glucocorticoids dexamethasone, methylprednisolone and prednisone, as well as antibiotics and anti-tuberculosis drugs, including capreomycin, rifabutin, cycloserine, bedaquiline, delamanide, terizidone and aminosalicylic acid.

On June 10, the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, reminded that every Russian citizen should be vaccinated against tuberculosis, hepatitis B, measles, whooping cough, diphtheria, tetanus, polio and rubella in a timely manner to ensure long-term immunity. Popova stressed that thanks to these measures, the incidence rate in the country remains low compared to other countries.
