The Moldovan government has introduced a state of emergency in the energy sector due to fuel shortages. This was announced on July 28 by the Prime Minister of the Republic Vasile Tofan during a meeting with the Cabinet of Ministers of the country.

"The drop in the water level in the Danube River has led to disruptions in the supply of petroleum products by barges to the port of Giurgiulesti, which has already caused fuel shortages at dozens of gas stations on the eve of the active agricultural season. Due to the shortage of fuel, we are forced to introduce a state of emergency in the energy sector, we will appeal to parliament to approve such a decision," Tofan said. The politician posted a fragment of his speech on the Facebook page (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

The head of government explained that import difficulties were also caused by logistical disruptions in Romania. Moldova receives 70% of its diesel fuel from this country. According to the Prime Minister, at the moment, a shortage of diesel has already been recorded at 53 gas stations in the republic. Tofan stressed the need for prompt approval of restrictive measures in connection with the start of field work.

In addition, the Moldovan government has imposed a 30-day energy alert due to fuel shortages due to crises in a number of logistics supplies, including in the Middle East.
