Bust of Admiral Nakhimov unveiled in St. Petersburg on Navy Day

The grand opening ceremony of the bust of Admiral Pavel Nakhimov took place in the square of the Main Admiralty in St. Petersburg. This was announced on July 26 by the press service of the city government.

The event was attended by Alexander Beglov, Governor of St. Petersburg, and Alexander Moiseev, Commander-in-Chief of the Navy. The opening of the monument was timed to coincide with the celebration of Navy Day.

"The Admiralty remembers many great naval commanders. There is a sense of generational connection here. We opened the bust of Pavel Nakhimov. He studied here, started serving, and then the country recognized him as a great naval commander, defender of Sevastopol," Beglov said.

The ceremony was attended by officers, navy veterans, yunarmeyts and personnel of the Honor Guard company. Moiseev also emphasized the importance of Nakhimov's figure for the country's history.

"With his military work, he (Nakhimov — Ed.) increased the glory of Russia as a Great maritime power. We are proud of the names of outstanding naval commanders, we admire their fortitude and willingness to serve the Motherland," said the Commander—in-Chief of the Navy.

On July 26, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed Russian military personnel on the occasion of the Navy. He noted that today the country honors its valiant Navy and all those who, in different years and epochs, created its glory, as well as provided Russia with the status of a great maritime power with brilliant scientific achievements.
