Armenia will lose 80% of revenues from cheese exports in case of loss of the Russian market

Armenia will lose more than 80% of its income from cheese exports if it loses access to the Russian market due to the measures taken by the Rosselkhoznadzor. This was reported on July 25 by RIA Novosti with reference to data from the national statistical services.

Last year, Yerevan's income from the supply of cheese to world markets amounted to $16.4 million, of which $13.5 million was the profit from exports to Russia. That is, 83% of the revenue from all Armenian cheese exports.

Russia has become not only the largest buyer of cheese from Armenia, but also the only country that imports millions of dollars worth of its products from there every month. Next, by the end of 2025, are the USA ($1.8 million) and Georgia ($670.9 thousand).

On July 24, the Rosselkhoznadzor imposed restrictions on the import of dairy products from Armenia. They explained that the decision was made following an inspection of Armenian dairy processing plants conducted from July 14 to 21. The inspection revealed violations in the product traceability system, registration of veterinary documents, veterinary and sanitary examination of raw materials and production control.
