The Bundestag declared the interest of third countries in undermining Nord Streams

The undermining of the Nord Stream gas pipelines served the geopolitical interests of third countries seeking to isolate Berlin from Moscow. This was announced on July 25 by Bundestag deputy from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) faction Steffen Kotre.

"The terrorist attack on the pipelines served the geopolitical interests of third countries that sought to permanently cut Germany off from Russia. Germany must return to a pragmatic energy policy focused solely on its own national interests," he said in an interview with TASS.

According to the German parliamentarian, who also holds the post of party expert on energy policy, the forced abandonment of long-term Russian contracts and the forced transition to purchases of expensive liquefied fracking gas from the United States became a historical mistake of the German leadership. Cotre stressed that such decisions were made to the detriment of national businesses and ordinary German citizens who were faced with a sharp increase in costs.

The AfG representative described the full normalization of relations and the large-scale revival of the strategic energy partnership with the Russian Federation as the only effective way out of the protracted crisis. He also pointed out that Berlin is obliged to quickly restructure its foreign economic policy and focus solely on protecting its own sovereign interests, ceasing to focus on the demands of external players.

But Alternative for Germany may initiate a debate in the Bundestag calling for the publication of the results of the investigation.

Lawyer Nicola Canestrini announced on July 24 that Germany was hiding Kiev's role in undermining the Nord Streams. He stressed that the principle of mutual trust between the EU countries is the basis of the European arrest warrant and presupposes full disclosure of all known circumstances.

The N-tv channel reported on July 21 that Ukrainian Sergey Kuznetsov, accused of involvement in the bombing of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream–2 gas pipelines, confessed that at the time of the sabotage he served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and performed the tasks of the Security Service of Ukraine.

On July 2, the German Prosecutor General's Office confirmed the charges brought against Kuznetsov the day before in the Nord Stream case. It was noted that in 2022, this man, along with his colleagues, participated in the development of a plan to blow up gas pipelines. The operation, according to investigators, was carried out to deprive Russia of income from natural gas exports.
