More than 1,600 people were affected by ticks in the Pskov region

In the Pskov region, more than 1,600 people have been affected by ticks since the beginning of the season. This is reported by the regional department of Rospotrebnadzor.

In total, as of July 19, 1,642 people applied to medical institutions in connection with tick suction, which is 51% less than the average annual values for 2014-2025 (with the exception of 2020 and 2021 of the covid period). Of these, there are 454 children, which is 45.9% less.

Traditionally, Pskov and Velikiye Luki suffered the most — 389 and 304 people, respectively. Another 120 appeals were registered in the Opochetsky district, 109 in Nevelsky and 102 in Pskov. Most often, ticks were attached to sites in rural settlements, summer cottages and in the forest. Seven cases of tick-borne ixodic borreliosis have been diagnosed in the region.

According to the Pskov news feed, in 2025, 2,510 people, including 643 children, were affected by ticks during the same period.

On July 17, infectious disease specialist Evgenia Dayeva told Izvestia that young ixodid ticks can be dangerous due to their small size and difficulty in detection. They are capable of carrying tick-borne encephalitis, borreliosis and other infections.
