The psychologist explained the role of financial transparency in relationships
Hidden expenses in a relationship often become a source of conflict, while openly discussing finances and establishing personal space help build trust between partners. Dmitry Yagudin, the founder of the D.R. Yagudin International Neurouniversity, Doctor of Psychological Sciences, told Izvestia about this on July 24.
According to him, hidden expenses often reflect a person's need for personal space.
"The addict hides his expenses from everyone, including himself. An ordinary financial traitor hides only from his partner," Yagudin explained.
The expert emphasized that personal financial space is not cheating, but a form of relationship hygiene. The problem arises not when there is spending, but when agreements are violated and there are no clear rules.: "Most couples have never talked through the rules about what they personally match and how much they match."
Yagudin stressed that a purchase becomes "treason" only if it is hidden from a partner.
To prevent conflicts, the specialist recommends discussing money in advance when a couple starts living together. The format of "financial dates" includes three rules: a conversation about the future and plans, an agreement on the amount of personal autonomy, and control over bodily reactions during the discussion.
"A couple who knows how to talk calmly about money knows how to talk about everything. This is perhaps the most underestimated indicator of a healthy relationship," Yagudin stressed.
On July 17, Irina Krashkina, a psychotherapist at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg Clinic), Candidate of Medical Sciences, said that the desire to perform high-quality work and achieve high results is a normal and useful personality trait. However, pathological perfectionism can lead to chronic stress, anxiety, emotional exhaustion, and even health problems.
