New special equipment will protect the forests of Buryatia

New forest fire fighting equipment will protect the forests of Buryatia from fires. As part of additional federal funding, 18 off-road vehicles were purchased, the press service of the republican government reports.

The special equipment was handed over at the Trans-Baikal Forest Aviation Protection Base. These are tracked all-terrain vehicles, shift cars, snowmobiles, trucks and boats.

The vehicles have already been sent to eight aviation departments in the region. They will allow firefighters to be quickly transported to the most remote fires.

According to IA UlanMedia, the allocated funds will also be used to increase the staff of the airborne fire service, purchase equipment and train new specialists. This will help to better cope with forest fires and protect the nature of the region.

A special fire protection regime has been introduced in Buryatia since April 1 in all 37 forestry districts. For the duration of its operation, it is forbidden to use an open fire, visit forests and enter their territory by car.

Violators face heavy fines. In addition, the republic's authorities offered a reward of 10,000 rubles for information about the perpetrators of wildfires.
