Cooperation between Russia and China in the field of peaceful nuclear energy is deep, strategic and exemplary both in form and content. Alexey Likhachev, CEO of Rosatom State Corporation, told reporters on Friday, July 24.

"In this case, these are not my words, I am quoting our leaders, who regularly discuss cooperation in the nuclear energy industry during their meetings, summarize the interim results of our work and set us new tasks," said the head of the state corporation.

Likhachev recalled that in May of this year, during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to China, Rosatom signed three memoranda. The documents relate to the development of human resources in cooperation with the Atomic Energy Agency, research in the field of thermonuclear fusion with the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, as well as innovative graphics and quantum technologies in cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Likhachev named the construction of two nuclear power plants on the shores of the Yellow Sea, Tianwan and Xudapu, as one of the key areas. Two VVER-1200 units are being built at both sites.

"At both sites, we expect the start of launch operations on the first blocks this year, literally within the next few weeks. And at the second blocks, the eighth and fourth, respectively, similar work will take place next year," Alexey Likhachev said.

After the commissioning of the seventh and eighth blocks, the Tianwan station will become the most powerful on the planet. The facility will include eight gigawatt class units providing 9 GW of clean electric generation. At the same time, six of the eight reactors at the site were built using Russian technologies.

Likhachev also stated on April 21 that Rosatom's priority task was to start up, connect to the grid and provide electricity at the first unit of the Akkuyu NPP. According to him, the Turkish contractors and Rosatom will do everything to make this year the year Turkey acquires nuclear energy.
