Chinese engineers took part in the development of the Russian electric car Atom.
The Russian company Kama JSC has issued patents for the Atom electric vehicle platform. In total, 38 development engineers are listed by the authors, among whom six have Chinese citizenship, and the rest have Russian citizenship. The patent documents contain schematic images of the frame of an electric vehicle with floor panels, spars and an engine compartment shield, as well as illustrations of the chassis with subframes, levers, springs, shock absorbers and wheels.
In 2024, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) announced that Chinese investors would participate in the implementation of the Atom electric vehicle project. It was noted at the time that the partnership provided for the possibility of promoting the Russian electric car in the Chinese market, as well as the search for industrial sites and facilities to localize Atom's production in Harbin, where the RDIF opened a representative office.
The Atom electric car is equipped with an electric motor that develops 204 hp (295 Nm). The power reserve for the WLTP cycle is 500 km, rear-wheel drive. The battery capacity is 77 kWh. Among the features of the model are a display on the steering wheel and a body structure without a central pillar. The length of the car is 3995 mm, the wheelbase is 2635 mm.
The first batch of Atom electric cars was delivered to pre-ordered customers on July 17. The copies included in the first wave of issuance will be delivered to the owners between July 16 and October 15.
