Netizens suspected Rotten Tomatoes of falsifying the Odyssey rating
Reddit users have accused the Rotten Tomatoes aggregator of possibly moderating negative reviews of Christopher Nolan's Odyssey. Over the past weekend, several publications appeared on the platform at once, the authors of which claim that their negative reviews were not published, despite compliance with the rules of the service.
One of the users said that he specifically registered on Rotten Tomatoes to leave the first review of the film, rating it 7.5 out of 10. However, a few hours later, I discovered that the review had disappeared.
"I created an account and gave the movie 7.5/10. Eight hours later, I returned to check the review and saw that it had been deleted. I don't think there was anything inappropriate about him. Is Rotten Tomatoes censoring reviews?" he wrote on Reddit.
Some commentators questioned the accusations, noting that the platform could have rejected the review because of only the created profile - according to them, Rotten Tomatoes could consider the user's review false and aimed at intentionally lowering the rating of the film, rather than its honest assessment.
Soon, another user shared a similar story, noting that his one-and-a-half-star review has been under moderation for more than two days, although he had previously successfully published over 30 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. According to him, it was when trying to criticize Odyssey that the site first showed the notice "This review must be verified."
The author of the publication also drew attention to the fact that there are practically no reviews below three stars among the user ratings of the film. In his opinion, this may indicate that the site delays or does not publish low ratings in order to maintain a high user rating of the painting.
"Even if you don't agree that I didn't like the movie, there will always be people who don't like any movie and they leave reviews with one or two stars. I believe that Rotten Tomatoes does not approve of low ratings in order to increase the sales and rating of the film," he said.
Some commentators supported the author and stated that they had experienced a similar delay in publication, while others suggested that the reviews could fall under automatic moderation to protect against a possible influx of unfair ratings that users could leave en masse with the intention of spoiling the rating of the film premiere.
Most of the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes give a positive assessment of the film. The page contains only two ratings below three stars: one user gave two points, calling the film "a protracted mess with poor casting and bad dialogues," and the second rated the film 2.5 and said he expected more amid the hype around the film and high ratings. At the moment, the platform has not commented on the criticism in social networks.
