The plot of the series begins after the death of Faye, Kratos' wife and Atreus' mother. Father and son embark on a journey to fulfill her last wish and scatter the ashes from the highest peak of the Nine Worlds.
As they progress, the characters encounter Norse gods, monsters, and the aftermath of Kratos' past. He tries to teach Atreus to be a better god, while the son helps the father regain his humanity. The creators call the relationship between them the emotional basis of the story.
The official project page notes that the series will closely follow the plot of the last two games. However, it is not known how much detail the authors will tell about Kratos' Greek past and the events of the early parts of the franchise.
Who will play in the series "God of War"
The role of Atreus is played by Callum Vinson. His character grew up in a secluded house in the woods with his mother and hardly knows his emotionally closed father. After Faye's death, the boy strives to earn Kratos' approval and prove that he is able to survive in a dangerous world.
Odin will be played by Mandy Patinkin. In the series, the supreme god of the Aesir is described as a cruel and manipulative ruler obsessed with prophecies and attempts to prevent Ragnarok. The role of Thor was given to Oulavur Darri Oulafsson. His character is a former devoted warrior of Asgard and Odin's right—hand man, who is haunted by memories of past deeds.
Ed Skrein will play Balder, Odin's youngest son, who is deprived of the ability to feel physical pain and pleasure. Max Parker will appear as Heimdall, the guardian of Asgard, who is able to foresee the near future. Teresa Palmer will play the role of Sif, Thor's wife. The cast also includes Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri and Danny Woodburn as Brock. Duncan previously voiced Mimir in video games.
According to media reports, Sonya Walger as Freya, Louis Cunningham as Maudie, Ben Chappell as Magni, Island Austin as Trude and Evelyn Miller as Gna also joined the project.
How the "God of War" project developed
Prime Video has ordered a film adaptation of "God of War" in December 2022. Initially, Rafe Judkins, creator of The Wheel of Time, was appointed showrunner, and Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby prepared the script.
