The CEO of NMG spoke about the preferences of Russian viewers in content
The vast majority of Russians surveyed (82%) prefer Russian films and TV series. The National Media Group (NMG) conducted its research, and its results were presented on July 17 at the Russian Creative Week.
"Western content is often not acceptable to so many cultures, the kind of content that has been produced recently. There is increasing interest in content that carries traditional values that are understandable to the vast majority of the world. Of course, universal stories are in demand there — stories about friendship, family, and love," said Svetlana Balanova, General Director of NMG.
The audience also shares the idea that cinema should raise important topics and broaden their horizons. Distributors are most interested in stories with traditional values. Balanova also said that NMG is working with Serbian partners on a film adaptation of Vasil Bykov's novel "The Alpine Ballad".
On June 25, the analytical company Medialogia summed up the results of the Russian TV series rating for May 2026, presenting the top 30 most popular projects among Russians for the month. The leader of the rating was the American TV series "Boys", which scored 2984 points. Compared to last month, he rose from second place. The top five most popular shows also included "Euphoria" with 1983 points, the Russian Fifth Channel project "Sled" with 1617 points, the Japanese anime "Magic Battle" with 1378 points and the hit from the USA "Very Strange Things", which scored 1159 points.
