A resident of the Zaporizhia region was sentenced to 12 years in prison in a high-security penal colony for high treason. This was reported on July 17 in the press service of the FSB of Russia for the region.

"Based on the results of the review by the Zaporizhia Regional Court of a criminal case investigated by the investigative department of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Zaporizhia region under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of Russia ("High Treason")," the agency said in a statement.

According to the investigation, the man, born in 1973, subscribed to the Telegram channel, which was used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) for intelligence activities and preparation of strikes on Russian territory. In this channel, the person involved provided information about the location of Russian military personnel and equipment in the region.

In addition, it is specified that the man received Russian citizenship in December 2022, and decided to provide assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine back in October 2023.

On the same day, the Khabarovsk Regional Court sentenced a 47-year-old local resident to 14 years in a high-security penal colony for treason. From February to July 2024, the defendant confirmed his willingness to cooperate, provided personal data for naturalization and collected information about military products for use against the security of the Russian Federation.
