Zakharova said there were no security guarantees for Russia from Europe

European countries discussing security guarantees for Ukraine do not offer similar guarantees to Russia. This was announced on July 16 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"What are you talking about?" Zakharova said on the Big Game program on Channel One, answering a question about whether European states had offered Moscow security guarantees amid discussions of such measures for Kiev.

The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry recalled that in 2021, the Russian side made a proposal to Western countries to develop common security guarantees. According to her, Moscow has not received a clear response to this initiative.

Zakharova said on July 16 that Moscow would not reject real proposals from the United States to resolve the situation in Ukraine. According to her, European countries verbally declare their interest in negotiations with Moscow, but in fact they are doing everything to prevent Russian-European contacts from taking place.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on July 16 that there were currently no quick prospects for resuming negotiations on a settlement in Ukraine. He stressed that Russia still maintains its openness to this path and notes Turkey's diplomatic efforts.
