Unreleased songs by British musician David Bowie recorded in 1965 will be included in the David Bowie compilation.: The Shel Talmy Recordings. The release is scheduled for September 18. This was reported by The Guardian newspaper on July 15.

The collection is dedicated to the early period of the artist's work, when he was still performing under the name Davy Jones. It will include previously published compositions and their unknown versions, as well as songs that have not been released before. Unreleased works include Cupid, Leave Her to Me, You Gotta Tell Her, Certain Woman, Today, I Live in Dreams and I Do Believe I Love You. The instrumental song Keep Up With the Jones was also included in the collection. The song I Want Your Love has already become available for listening.

Bowie performed recordings on his own or together with his accompanying bands The Lower Third and The Manish Boys. Some of the tracks featured future Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, who was working as a session musician at the time and joined The Manish Boys. Pianist Nicky Hopkins, who later collaborated with The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Jeff Beck and other famous artists, was also involved in the work.

The producer of the recordings was Shel Talmi, one of the notable figures of British rock music of the 1960s. He worked on the songs You Really Got Me by The Kinks, My Generation by The Who, as well as on several compositions by Manfred Mann.

"I was sure that he would definitely succeed. The only problem was that we were about six years ahead of the market, which eventually accepted him," Talmi said in an interview with music journalist Bill Kopp in 2017.

Music historian Alec Palao, in the notes to the collection, called for evaluating Bowie's early works in the context of the British music scene in 1965, rather than comparing them with the artist's later work.

"David Bowie as an artist is a book consisting of chapters, and each new page offers something completely different and unexpected compared to the previous one. It would be a serious mistake to contrast these periods with each other, since each interesting stage of his career should be considered an addition to the rest," Palao said.

According to him, the new collection represents one of the first chapters of Bowie's musical journey and deserves independent consideration. In 2000, the artist returned to some early compositions and re-recorded them together with the musicians with whom he performed at the Glastonbury Festival. The material was intended for the Toy album, but Bowie switched to creating new songs. The album was officially released only in 2021, five years after the musician's death.

In April, Madonna surprised the guests of a private club in West Hollywood, where she performed new songs from her upcoming studio work. The album Confessions II will be a follow-up to the 2005 album. One of the presented novelties was the song I Feel So Free.
