- The memory of Chief engineer Yakovlev, who was killed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, will be perpetuated at the nuclear power plant.
Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) will perpetuate the memory of its chief engineer Alexander Yakovlev, who was killed in a drone strike The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was announced on July 16 by Evgenia Yashina, Director of Communications at ZAES.
"The memory of the chief engineer will definitely be perpetuated. <...> His name and his contribution to the history of the station will not be forgotten," TASS quoted her as saying.
Yashina added that for the ZAES staff, Yakovlev will remain a man who served his cause and ensured nuclear safety. According to her, the facility's employees continue to perform their duties, despite the murder of one of its leaders.
"The safety of the station has been and remains our absolute priority," concluded Yashina.
The day before, a Ukrainian UAV purposefully hit a Toyota Camry company car in which Yakovlev and his driver Dmitry Filippov were traveling. As a result, both died. Yakovlev was responsible for the operation of the NPP, ensuring the nuclear safety of the region. The Investigative Committee of Russia has opened a criminal case on the terrorist attack on the fact of the Ukrainian Armed Forces attack.
The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, condemned Yakovlev's murder, calling such an attack on the nuclear power plant unacceptable. The Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Rodion Miroshnik, added that the terrorist attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces leads to an escalation on the path of nuclear terror. The press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the murder of the chief engineer of the nuclear power plant is an attempt by Kiev to endanger the safe operation of the plant.
