Britain to allocate € 300 million to Ukraine for Swedish multirole fighter Gripen

The UK will provide Ukraine with another €300 million for the purchase of Swedish Saab JAS 39 Gripen multirole fighter jets. This was announced on July 16 on the website of the Prime Minister of the kingdom, Cyrus Starmer.

"The UK is investing €300 million to help supply modern Swedish Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine, strengthening its defense capability," the text says.

It is noted that such a step will allow the military of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) By 2029, it will have an entire squadron consisting of 16 Gripens. It will also provide about 5,000 British people with jobs that will appear in over 50 companies.

The announced military assistance package, as explained in the statement, will include not only assistance with the delivery itself, but also training of Ukrainian soldiers in handling new equipment. It also includes additional fighter parts and other equipment.

The relevant decision, as it was emphasized, was made by Starmer during his last official visit to Kiev, which he pays as prime minister.

The fact that Sweden is preparing to transfer Gripen fighters to Ukraine became known on May 28. At the same time, representatives of the Russian diplomatic mission in Stockholm called this deal cynical and pointed out that the Swedish side was escalating the escalation.

Some time later, on July 1, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky confirmed that the Ukrainian Armed Forces would receive 16 Gripen E. According to him, the first deliveries will be made at the beginning of next year.
