The results of air quality testing in the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles confirmed the presence of toxic compounds. This was reported on July 16 by NBC News.

It is noted that the detected substances correspond to the vapors of decomposing food materials that are stored in the warehouse of the Lineage company.

Despite the fact that the recorded concentrations of substances do not reach the thresholds for declaring an emergency, they can cause irritation of mucous membranes, headaches and other health problems among local residents.

For years, citizens have been complaining about the unbearable smell in the area. According to one of the local residents, the conditions near the warehouse have become unacceptable for life.

"There are rats, there are flies. The smell is terrible. Insurance companies don't help home owners," she said.

Local activists appealed to the Governor of California, Gavin Newsom. They demand the introduction of a mandatory evacuation regime, which will allow affected families to receive compensation for the cost of paying for temporary housing.

The Guardian newspaper reported on June 29 that more than 41.8 thousand premature deaths in the United States were caused by air pollution from road transport in 2024. According to the results of the study, approximately five Americans die every hour from exposure to toxic car emissions.
