Over the past day, 188 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 20 people were killed and 208 injured. This was reported to Izvestia on July 16 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As a result of 49 accidents involving pedestrians, four people were killed, and 46 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 12 children, two of whom were injured at pedestrian crossings, and ten more were outside their area of operation. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 16 occurred at pedestrian crossings, 33 outside their area of operation.

12 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which 14 road users, including one minor, required medical assistance. Four bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.

In addition, over the past day, 29 accidents involving minors were registered on the roads of Russia, as a result of which one child was killed, another 30 young road users were injured, including nine child passengers and two motor transport drivers.

In the Republic of Karelia, late in the evening, on the third km of the highway "Entrance to the village of Khidenselga", a driver of a passenger car who did not have a driver's license drove into oncoming traffic in a prohibited place, where he collided with a moped driven by a 16-year-old teenager who also did not have the right to drive vehicles. A moped driver and his 13-year-old passenger were killed in the accident. Both teenagers were traveling without motorcycle helmets.

The State Traffic Inspectorate reminds that driving vehicles without a driver's license is not only a gross violation of the law, but also significantly increases the risk of road accidents with serious consequences. Persons who have not completed training and have not received the right to drive do not have the necessary skills for safe behavior on the road and are not able to correctly assess the development of the traffic situation, the department emphasizes.

"We pay special attention to the mandatory use of motorcycle helmets for every ride on motorcycles, mopeds and other motorcycles. It is the main means of protecting the driver and passenger and in many cases helps to prevent fatal head injuries or significantly reduce the severity of the consequences of an accident. Parents should exclude the possibility of minors driving motor vehicles," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child Traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Earlier today it became known that an accident involving a truck and a passenger car occurred on the M-1 Belarus highway in the Moscow region. As a result of the car accident, the driver and one of the passengers of the car were killed, and another passenger was hospitalized.
