BMP-2M infantry fighting vehicles equipped with the Berezhok combat module began to master firing from closed positions at unobserved targets. This tactic allows you to hit the enemy without going out into the open, which reduces the risks for crews and equipment. The new capabilities of the upgraded vehicles will help to support assault units more effectively and expand their combat options, military experts say.

New features of the BMP combat module

During the training, the crews of infantry fighting vehicles began practicing firing from closed positions at unobserved targets, sources familiar with the situation told Izvestia. This firing tactic allows you to hit the enemy at a distance of several kilometers.

The BMP-2M equipped with the Berezhok module, designed to modernize the aging twos, is practicing firing, the interlocutors of the publication noted. The crews of infantry fighting vehicles at the training grounds work in tandem with drone operators. This tactic allows you to destroy the enemy without being noticed.

Berezhok is an armored turret with a 30 mm 2A42 automatic cannon, a 7.62mm PKTM machine gun, a 30 mm AG—30M automatic grenade launcher and two Kornet anti-tank missile systems that can destroy armored vehicles and firing points from a distance of several kilometers.

The module is also equipped with a new automated fire control system with automatic target tracking and a ballistic calculator.

The tactics of using armored vehicles during a special military operation have undergone major changes, said military expert Alexei Leonkov.

"Previously, firing from closed positions was rare," he told Izvestia. — Tanks and infantry fighting vehicles were expected to be used as vehicles providing a deep breakthrough in defense, maneuverable actions of troops. But the large number of drones above the battlefield, which primarily hunt for armored vehicles, forced them to use it in a new way, to find new methods of warfare.

The installation of the modern Berezhok module has significantly expanded the combat capabilities of the BMP-2M. Now military personnel need to learn how to use them to the fullest, military expert Yuri Lyamin believes.

—Firing a 30-millimeter cannon from closed positions is a useful option,— Lyamin told Izvestia. — Given the caliber and the long range at which the fire is conducted, you will not achieve perfect accuracy. Due to the low-power 30-millimeter projectile, it will not be possible to destroy the dugout or positions in the basements. But due to the fact that the gun is automatic, it is possible to cover and disperse advancing enemy assault groups or rotating militants from a long distance with a series of bursts, destroy ground-based robotic complexes delivering ammunition or other important cargo.

In addition, it is possible to hit the antennas of communication points or control UAVs, which are often placed closer to the front line, he also noted.

An automatic machine-gun grenade launcher, which is included in the Berezhka weapon system kit, is well suited for mounted shooting. It hits targets at a distance of up to 2 km.

The BMP-3 crews were the first to master shooting from closed positions. This machine has two guns: a 30-millimeter automatic and a powerful 100-millimeter — it is this gun that is effectively used in battles to destroy enemy fortifications.

The fire from closed positions of heavy armored vehicles during the military special operation proved its effectiveness. For this reason, its introduction began to be actively and carefully practiced in the troops and on lighter combat vehicles, Lyamin noted.

Tanks use tactics of fire raids

Based on the experience gained during combat operations, the functionality of using military equipment is constantly expanding. Izvestia wrote that the tank crews began to use fire tactics. With such combat work, tanks attack in pairs.

Operating at the very front, the machine comes to a direct firing range for only a couple of minutes to release several shells, and then go into hiding. She strikes again from a new direction.

At this time, the second tank is firing from a pre-prepared caponier in the rear at the detected targets. The power of the 125-millimeter cannon's shells guarantees the destruction of dugouts, machine-gun nests and armored vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Such fire raids are impossible without preparation. The tankers calculate in advance the ways of advancing, taking into account the terrain and the counteraction of the AFU units. It is important for them to avoid boilerplate actions so as not to become an easy target.

Interaction with unmanned aircraft plays an important role in the new tactics. Our reconnaissance drones correct tank fire from closed positions, transmitting the exact coordinates of targets, reporting newly discovered enemy infrastructure facilities and warning crews of dangers.
