LDPR leader Leonid Slutsky said on July 15 that the death of Alexander Yakovlev, chief engineer of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, should be regarded as an act of nuclear terrorism.

"The murder of the chief engineer of the nuclear power plant by the Armed Forces of Ukraine is an act of nuclear terrorism," reads a post on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

In addition, Slutsky called on the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, to condemn Kiev.

Alexey Likhachev, head of the Rosatom state Corporation, said on July 15 that Yakovlev and his driver Dmitry Filippov were killed due to a targeted attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on a car. According to him, the chief engineer of the power plant devoted his whole life to nuclear energy and "died, in fact, at a combat post."
