Lantratova reported on negotiations with Ukraine on future prisoner exchanges

Negotiations on new prisoner exchanges between Russia and Ukraine are continuing. This was announced on July 15 by the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, Yana Lantratova.

"We are currently negotiating the following exchanges. Since I took office, 550 of our guys, Russian prisoners of war, have been returned home together with the relevant structures, this is very important," she told IS Vesti, fragments of the interview were published on the Telegram channel.

According to Lantratova, her cooperation with the Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets remains effective. She said that the parties agreed on mutual visits to prisoners of war to check the conditions of their detention. The Ukrainian Ombudsman visits Russian military personnel in Ukraine, and Lantratov visits Ukrainian prisoners of war in Russia.

The Russian and Ukrainian sides are also exchanging parcels and letters for prisoners of war. Lantratova noted that during the return of Russian servicemen from captivity, many of them said that it was the letters of their relatives and children that helped them maintain their strength and hope.

In addition, the Ombudsman reported that through the offices of the authorized representatives, the parties exchange documents necessary for families to receive social benefits and resolve other humanitarian issues.

"The main thing in our work is the exchange. We send each other lists that come to the office of the Commissioner for Human Rights, [lists] of missing persons. Then each of us checks to see if this person is in captivity. You know, it happens very quickly. We are literally in touch every day," Lantratova explained.

According to her, after checking the information about the presence of military personnel in captivity, further work on exchanges is carried out by specialized structures together with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. The Ombudsman added that another important area of cooperation remains the reunification of families separated during the conflict in Ukraine.

The day before, Lantratova announced that the next prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine would be held in the near future. However, she did not give an exact date. This is necessary because the exchange process may otherwise be disrupted. The Ombudsman explained that the exchange is conducted with great care and attention is paid to each stage.

Lantratova said on July 7 that the office of the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, together with the Ministry of Defense, had determined the fate of 91 servicemen, who had previously been considered missing during a special military operation. In addition, Moscow and Kiev conducted three prisoner exchanges in June. As a result of these events, 550 Russian servicemen returned to their homeland.
