The Ministry of Health announced an increase in the five-year survival rate of patients with cancer

In Russia, the five-year survival rate of cancer patients has increased by more than 7%. This was announced on July 15 by Andrey Kaprin, Chief oncologist of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Director General of the National Research Medical Center of Radiology.

"Over the past decade, the growth has been more than seven percentage points, and for oncology this is a very serious result," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The proportion of such patients in 2015 was 52.9%, but in 2024 the figure reached 60.1%, and in 2025 it was delayed by 59.3%. As Kaprin noted, such positive results were achieved thanks to new technologies that had not previously been used in the clinical practice of Russian specialists.

On April 7, oncologist, surgeon, Candidate of Medical Sciences Ruslan Basanov told Izvestia that in Russia more than half of new cases of cancer occur in women, this is due to the peculiarities of the incidence structure. He stressed that the age factor plays a significant role. The risk of developing cancer increases markedly after the age of 50-55.
