- The United States has failed to produce artillery shells due to the pace of their supply to Ukraine
The American military-industrial complex was unable to fulfill its plan to increase production of 155-mm artillery shells due to high supply rates to Ukraine. This is evidenced by the report of the Pentagon's military inspection on July 15.
"The company <...> did not produce a single metal part of the projectile that would meet the requirements of the contract," RIA Novosti cites the text of the report.
Thus, instead of the planned 100,000 shells per month, as of March, production growth was achieved to only 36,000. At the same time, the $469 million spent on a new plant in Mesquite could have been directed to other purposes of the American army.
It is noted that in total, as part of the presidential aid packages, the United States provided Kiev with more than 3 million shells. As a result, the number of 155-mm shells from the Pentagon's reserves has decreased by more than 3.6 million over the past four years.
CNN reported on July 12 that stocks of key American weapons remain depleted, and the Pentagon is actively trying to expand the industrial base for their production. A representative of the US Department of Defense, on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the department was "committed to rapidly building up the defense industrial base."
