- The NPP was left without external power supply for a short time due to a thunderstorm.
Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) on Tuesday, July 14, was completely deprived of external power supply for a short time due to a thunderstorm. This was announced on July 14 by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
"Today, the Zaporizhia NPP is operating for the 22nd time... After the conflict, the external power supply was completely cut off for a short time," the message on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
According to the IAEA, the reason for the shutdown was the interruption of the only remaining 330 kV Ferosplavna-1 power transmission line. According to the agency's Director General, Rafael Grossi, the incident highlights the vulnerability of the plant's power grid and the need to strengthen the energy supply system.
A temporary power outage occurred at the Zaporizhia NPP, as a result of which the station was powered by generators, the station's press service reported on July 3. It was noted that there were no failures in the operation of the generators. With the return of external power supply, the units were put into standby mode.
