- The media reported on the risk of Romania losing €4.5 billion due to the political crisis
Romania may lose €4.5 billion in European Commission funding due to delays in implementing reforms under the National Recovery and Resilience Program (PNRR). This was reported on July 14 by Digi 24 TV channel.
"The political crisis could lead to the loss of billions of euros from the PNRR budget. The lack of consensus on the creation of a new government also means a lack of consensus on European financing," the publication says.
According to the TV channel, parliament will meet for an extraordinary session at the end of this month, but it will be possible to adopt the programs proposed by the government only if an agreement is reached between the former partners in the ruling coalition.
Agerpres agency reported on June 24 that the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of parliament, of Romania approved a draft law on unification with Moldova. According to the proposed bill, the country's parliament confirms its commitment to the final act of the OSCE Helsinki Conference, which recognizes the possibility of peaceful diplomatic border changes and decides on the unification of Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu allowed unification with Romania on April 28 in order to speed up the process of joining the European Union (EU). She added that the accession is possible without taking into account the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. Sandu confirmed her intention to prepare Moldova for EU membership by 2030.
Moldovan Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi said on May 30 that he supports unification with Romania and is ready to vote for it in the event of a referendum. According to him, discussion of concrete steps towards unification will become possible with the appearance of "significant openness."
