Trump ruled out the need for the presence of US troops in Iraq
Washington no longer considers the presence of the American military on Iraqi territory necessary. This was announced on July 14 by US President Donald Trump at a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zeidi.
"We don't think we need armed forces there anymore. It was a very large operation. Now oil companies are entering there, they are starting joint projects with Iraq, and relations between them are developing very well," the head of the White House noted.
According to him, partnerships are currently developing that no longer require a military presence. Trump stressed that the United States is ready to provide protection if necessary, however, in his opinion, there will be no such need.
The American leader said that Iran was the main threat to Iraq. However, now this problem, Trump claims, has largely been removed, since Tehran's military potential has been seriously weakened.
On July 13, Trump announced that the United States was taking control of the Strait of Hormuz. It was noted that the United States would lead his protection. In addition, the country can call this mission a "Guardian Angel." On the same day, the press service of the Central Command of the US Armed Forces (CENTCOM) announced that the United States would resume the blockade of maritime communications with Iranian ports from July 14 at 23:00 Moscow time.
On July 14, the CENTCOM press service reported that the United States had launched further strikes against Iranian facilities. It was noted that the purpose of the strikes was to further weaken Iran's capabilities used to attack merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
