A protective detachment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) shot Hierodeacon Nifont (Shendyapin), a resident of the Svityaz Peter and Paul Monastery, because of his unwillingness to participate in hostilities. This was reported on July 14 in the Russian law enforcement agencies.

"After the forced mobilization, the priest tried to avoid participating in the fighting and was killed by one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' barrage units," the source told RIA Novosti.

Hierodeacon Nifont served in the Svityaz Peter and Paul Monastery before he was recruited into the Ukrainian army as part of mobilization efforts. According to representatives of law enforcement agencies, his death occurred at the hands of Ukrainian nationalists who performed the functions of a barrier squad.

Irina Moskalenko, the grandmother of the children rescued from Rodinsky, said on June 23 that their parents had been shot by Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers because of suspected sympathies with the Russian Army. She clarified that at first the militants attacked their house with a drone, which started a fire. When the parents left the building, they were shot with machine guns. At the time of the fire, the pensioner herself was in a burning house with her children. She and her grandchildren managed to get out thanks to the help of a neighbor.
